In celebration of World Teachers' Day today, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Jodi, a passionate Beauty Therapist and Trainer at Ella Baché College, to speak about her experience and dedication to the beauty industry and the education of aspiring beauty professionals. Here's a glimpse into her inspiring journey and the wisdom she shares with her students.
Please tell us a bit about yourself, how long have you been in the beauty industry and how long you have been teaching?
My name is Jodi, and I’m a Beauty Therapist and Trainer. I’ve been in the beauty industry for 35 years, and in January 2025, I’ll be celebrating 17 years of teaching at Ella Baché College.
What made you choose a career in beauty therapy 35 years ago?
I wanted to make people feel relaxed and to educate them on how to care for their skin. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about helping people look and feel their best, while also sharing knowledge that empowers them to manage their skin concerns.
What sets Ella Baché College apart from other beauty colleges, particularly for students just starting their studies?
Ella Baché is a well-known skincare brand with a rich history. At our college, we integrate the use of Ella Baché products into the treatments we teach, which gives students real-world experience with a trusted brand. Additionally, we have an extensive network of Ella Baché salons throughout Australia, which gives students the opportunity to start their careers immediately after they finish their studies.
Do you have any advice for students who are just starting out in their beauty therapy studies?
The best advice I can give is to keep asking questions. Curiosity is key to growth, and in the beauty industry, there’s always something new to learn. Being open to asking questions helps students build their knowledge and confidence.
What is your favourite part about teaching beauty therapy?
Watching the students develop their skills is by far the most rewarding part. Whether it's facials, massage, waxing, skincare consultations, or learning about the ingredients in Ella Baché products, it’s amazing to see their progress and passion grow.
Do you have a favourite beauty treatment and Ella Baché product that you love to teach and use with clients?
My favourite treatment is the Ella Baché Signature Facial. It's a wonderful experience for clients and an excellent treatment for students to master. As for products, I’m a huge fan of the Purifying Tomate Emulsion. It’s a staple in my skincare routine and one I always recommend.
How do you think the beauty industry has changed over the years, and do you have any beauty tips you swear by?
The industry has evolved significantly, especially with the introduction of advanced technology devices for facial treatments, which has made a big difference in how we approach skincare. As for beauty hacks, my biggest tip is to always treat your skin with the correct products and treatments tailored to your needs. And never forget to wear SPF 50+ every day!
What is the most important thing you hope every student takes away from their studies at Ella Baché College?
Students should leave with the understanding that they are now part of a larger community. The Ella Baché network of salons and beauty therapists is vast and is a valuable support system that can help them throughout their careers.
Any final thoughts or advice for those considering a career in beauty therapy?
